fabric 033This cute little fabric basket was a fast and fun project.  It uses very little fabric but is very useful for storage.  It could be completed with a fat quarter if you did not want a contrasting lining. I hope you enjoy this fabric basket tutorial.


2 pieces 6 inches by 8 inches main color for outside of basket

2 pieces 6 inches by 8 inches lining material

2 pieces of iron on interfacing 6 inches by 8 inches


  1. 1. Iron on interfacing to the main fabric
  2. With right sides of the main fabric together, sew the side and bottom seams.
  3. Make boxed corners, this is a great site for instructions for making boxed corners. http://www.threadingmyway.com/2012/05/fabric-basket-tutorial.html
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 on lining fabric. The only difference is that you should leave a three inch gap on bottom seam of  lining.
  5. Put the main fabric bag inside the linig, right side to right side.
  6. Sew to join the top edges  of the lining and the outside of the bag.
  7. Pull the right side of the bag out through the lining.
  8. Hand sew the lining shut
  9. Push the lining back into the bag.
  10. Iron the bag.
  11. Topstitch the edge of the baske

 I used some fabric I bought on the remnant shelf to make this fabric basket.  I liked that it was St. Patrick’s Day themed.  Now all this cute little guy needs is to be filled with some treats.  I was going to buy gold candy coins to make it a pot of gold.

  2. I am in the process of making 2 of these at different sizes. Am I supposed to also interface the lining? I noticed the materials list says 2 pieces of interfacing and the directions say repeat steps 1-3 for the lining. I wasn’t sure.
