This weekend I had planned on working on new tables for my bedroom. The weather was cold and the garage was not welcoming. So instead of refinishing furniture I turned to an old friend for some crafting fun…my sewing machine.
I am still making small gifts for Valentines. I have seen such cute mug rugs on Pinterest and wanted to make some of them for Valentines. I wanted mine to be smaller so that they would fit on a desk at work. I wanted them to be just a little larger than a traditional coaster.
If you have been reading our blog you know that I have been fascinated with transferring images to fabric with heat. The image that I used for this project came from Graphics Fairy. I have a major crush on her black and white images. To check out the technique that I used for the transfer click here. After transferring the image I wanted to add some color to the project. I had some fabric remnants (already sewn together from another project) that I cut for the trim. After the top was completed I layered together the top, the batting and the bottom fabric. I machine quilted the coaster sandwich. After the quilting I added some pink binding to finish it off.
I have several more black and white images that I plan on transferring to fabric and making more coasters for Valentine’s Day surprises. I plan on gifting the coasters along with the recipients favorite canned drink and all wrapped in cellophane and ribbon.
