As I have been planning for Valentines I wanted to create a design that I could share with you all. I saw a sugar skull Valentine card at a bookstore and liked the combination of color and Valentines/Day of the Dead. I got this “great” idea that I could create a sugar skull graphic myself. How I created the graphic is really old school. I hand drew the shape of the head and the teeth. I scanned what I had drawn and then added clip art to complete the skull. What a learning curve was involved in this. I took the design and created a few cute things for the upcoming holiday.
The first thing I did was use the heat transfer method to transfer the image onto cotton cloth. I used this technique earlier here. I am planning on making the fabric into a dish towel similar to the one I made previously.
The second project was to use the design to make a hang tag for a special treat. I stapled the folded card onto a treat bag to create the perfect small gift. The bag could be filled with any kind of goodie.
The third use of the graphic was used to make a greeting card. I simply printed the design on colored cardstock. I love how the cards turned out.
The final use of the project that I want to share with you is a banner. The colors reminded me of Papel Picado (cut paper) banners. Before Christmas I made a cute set of bunting holders (click here to check it out) and reused them along with the sugar skulls to make a Valentine banner. I added scraps of tied felt to make it more festive.
I hope you like the graphic I created. It took more time than I planned but I love creating something that I can share with you.
