These Pottery Barn stockings from a few years ago are the inspiration for the stocking I just finished. I liked the quilting and the simplicity of the stocking.
At a garage sale I found a couple of yards of small whale off white corduroy. It was beautiful fabric that wanted to be made into stockings. I cut out four stocking shapes out of the corduroy and machine quilted them together with medium loft batting between the layers. I used a crisscross design as I quilted the stocking rather than the straight line quilting in the one above.
I was not worried about my quilting lines being straight. When I look at the photo I think I should have marked the lines out before I started sewing, but in person the slightly curvy lines don’t bother me. They are very close together and the texture of the fabric combined with the quilting gives the stocking a very pleasing puckery look.
When I finished this stocking and went to bed and I was really satisfied with how it looked. It turned out to be one of those nights I could not sleep. At four in the morning I had to embellish the stocking. Since the first stocking I made was red and gray I decided one of those colors would be used for the embellishing. I had a small piece of gray felt from another project so the gray snowflake seemed perfect.
