When I start to create I usually start with Pinterest. I look at what others have created and then use what I have to make my treasure. These were some of the projects I looked at when I found my wonderful metal basket at an estate sale.
I have been slowly using what I already have on hand to create. My garage is very slowly beginning to empty. I found a treasure that I bought at the Beaumont, Tx Restore last summer. I have no idea what it is. No one in the store knew what it was. It was obviously hand made and crafty wonderful. This is a picture when I was trying to wrap my mind around what to create with it. The wooden plaque/shelf? is what came from the restore, the metal basket with the plastic fruit was 50 cents at an estate sale and the letters were left over from another project.
I needed a basket to hold mail in the kitchen and decided to combine this junk to solve my storage problem.
First off I painted the basket black.
I painted the shelf green and white before I added trim to the front of the shelf to make it more functional.
I stenciled “Welcome” on the plaque, attached the basket with cup hooks and distressed the whole thing.
I decided to go with Welcome instead of Mail so that it is more functional and could be used in the entry as well as in the kitchen. Since I am planning on using it as a mail center, I think I will put writing pens in one of the jars and stamps in the other.

What a cute idea! I love it…of course I am not sure if I could get my husband to ACTUALLY use it…he seems to think the “mail center” is my kitchen counter. Men!

Great idea! I was just complaining to my husband this morning that we need someplace to put our mail.
I love the way you repurposed this! I need to learn how to start seeing things with different eyes because I’m sure that I would have walked right past this in its original state, and it looks amazing now.

Love the use of found treasures to make something special for your home. I could use a “mail” basket. Maybe I’ll find something to repurpose in the house.

I really like this! I need something like this for all the scrap paper my husband comes home with. He is always asking me, “Where did that little piece of paper go?” It then has some important info like coordinates to a treasure or something. Glad I found you on live laugh linky! I will be pinning this for sure! I am sure my readers would just love this post…maybe you could stop by my Family Fridays Link-Up party today and share! I am a neat freak. So, while I’m also keen on doing my bit to help the environment, every time I go to put something in the trash, and realize that it’s already so tightly packed with cardboard and plastic that you couldn’t get so much as a HAIR into it, I will break out into a cold sweat.
