So this week for Whip It up Wednesday I made Cream Cheese Filled Monkey Bread! This is originally a Paula Dean Recipe that I’ve always wanted to try.
Here is the recipe that I found on Food Network.
Ingredients
1/2 cup granulated sugar
3 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese
2 (12-ounce) cans refrigerated biscuits (10 count)
1 1/2 cups coarsely chopped walnuts
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Spray a bundt pan with nonstick cooking spray. Mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon. In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over low heat, stirring well; set aside. Cut the cream cheese into 20 equal cubes. Press the biscuits out with your fingers and sprinkle each with 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon sugar. Place a cube of cream cheese in the center of each biscuit, wrapping and sealing the dough around the cream cheese. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of the nuts into the bottom of the bundt pan. Place half of the prepared biscuits in the pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, pour half of the melted butter mixture over the biscuits, and sprinkle on 1/2 cup of nuts. Layer the remaining biscuits on top, sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon sugar, pour the remaining butter mixture over the biscuits, and sprinkle with the remaining 1/2 cup of nuts. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool for 5 minutes. Place a plate on top and invert.
I got the idea for making monkey bread because I found this awesome monkey bread mold from Williams-Sonoma for only $3.99 at goodwill!
So I started by mixing the cinnamon and sugar.
Then I melted the butter and brown sugar mix together.
While this was melting I started chopping up the pecans. I decided on pecans rather than walnuts because I like pecans so much more! Then I started to assemble the balls. I took one biscuit and flattened it out and then put one square of cream cheese on each biscuit and then made it into a ball. The recipe says to cut the block of cream cheese into 20 blocks and then put one on each biscuit.
Once all of this was done I started putting everything together in the pan. I started with a layer of pecans and then my first row of balls.
I layered it like the instructions. It took me 3 layers rather than 2. In hindsight I probably would have made more of the butter brown sugar mix, but you live and learn! Once all the layers were in it looked like this.
I baked it on 350 for 30 minutes!
It looked so delicious right out of the oven but I made myself wait 10 minutes before flipping it.
And this is how mine turned out! I think I definitely could have used more brown sugar and butter mix but overall it was super delicious! This recipe is definitely worth a try if you like monkey bread! Thanks for coming by for another Whip It Up Wednesday!!
